AllHours Locksmithing Frequently Asked Questions

What areas do you serve?

We service all of greater Macomb County Michigan.

What are your hours of operation?
Our normal operation hours are 8am to 5pm, Monday - Friday.
We are also available for emergency service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week... even holidays!

Is there a service charge or any hidden charges at all?
Unlike most other locksmiths, we never have a service charge and there are never any hidden charges!

Do you charge an after hours fee for the weekend, holidays and evenings?
Yes, even though we have no service call charge, we do have an after hours charge of $25 per service call, still making this the best locksmith value in all of Macomb County.

How long ahead do I need to call to get service?
We usually have a very good response time of 10 to 30 minutes.  But you can also set up an appointment with us if you have a specific time you need the service.

What is the difference between replacing and re-keying locks?
Replacing the lock simply means to completely remove the lock from the door and replace it with a whole new lock.  Re-keying is when you fit your old locks with a new key.

Should I Re-key or replace the locks on my home?
We can re-key or replace your locks, depending on your preference. When you replace a lock, you get a shining piece of hardware in the color and finish you desire. Depending on the manufacturer, the quality, and / or grade of the lock, you will be spending $15.00 to $225.00 per lock, plus labor.

Should you wish to keep the existing hardware, we could re-key the lock(s) providing you a new key(s) rendering the old key useless.

The cost of re-keying is:

3 or more locks:

    $25.00 per lock

2 locks:

    $30.00 per lock

1 lock:
    $35.00 per lock

Should I get my locks re-keyed when I move to a new home?
You should always consider re-keying the locks when you move to a new residence because most of the times you have no idea who has a copy of the key.

This involves changing the pins in the cylinder that is inside your lock. The purpose of re-keying a lock is basically so that if anyone has your keys and you no longer want them to have access to your home, but do not want to purchase new locks, it will prevent them from gaining entry to your home

Can I get my locks re-keyed if I lost all the keys?
Yes, we can re-key even if you don't have a key, but there will be an additional $25.00 charged for this process.

I lost my keys, do I need new keys or do I need to re-key?
It depends on whether the person who took or finds your keys know what and/or where they are for? If this is not a concern, then replacing your keys will be fine.  If you do not have copies, we could come out and generate new keys for your existing home,  work or other locks.

If you are concerned, then we highly recommend that you re-key for security peace of mind. We re-key locks for homes and businesses

How frequently do locks have to be drilled to open them?
A good locksmith can open almost any locks without having to drill it.  Professional Locksmith and AllHours Locksmithing owner Ike Poole says, "In my professional career, I have never had to drill a lock.  I have always been able to open it some other way.  Drilling is not even an option in my head when I arrive at the site.  The only time I will drill a lock is if it is obviously broken."

Why would a locksmith unnecessarily drill locks? The charges for the "extra labor" of drilling. On top of the drilling cost, they ruined your doorknob or deadbolt, so now you have to buy a new lock from them. Then they charge you to install the new lock. Labor fees and extra time spent charges all add up to turn a simple lockout into a several-hundred dollar process.

Big companies with lots of advertising dollars can afford to drill many locks because they don't care about their reputation. They know that clients who call the first number in directory assistance did not do their research on the company. These locksmiths can afford to charge more because 1) they do not depend on a good reputation nor repeat clientele--they don't need to, because 2) they get plenty of gullible first-time callers from their big advertisements.

Is there a key cutting fee?
We provide you with up to 4 keys upon completion of re-keying your locks at no additional cost, making our service the best value in all of Macomb County.

What payment methods do you accept?
Currently we accept cash and checks.
In the near future we will also accept Visa, MasterCard and American Express.
